We have always created tools to enhance productivity and improve our lives, yet we often find ourselves struggling against our computerized devices, which can diminish our productivity and jeopardize our health. This book examines Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) from a human-centered perspective, prioritizing human physiology and psychology over the collection of innovations and habits that characterize current computer-centered HCI. It presents a three-part guide emphasizing the need for human interest and calm technology in HCI. The author highlights the dangers inherent in traditional HCI and draws on his diverse background in Anthropology, Linguistics, Education, Ergonomics, Human Factors, and Computer Science to introduce concepts such as ‘Anthropology-Based Computing’ (ABC), Dynamic Environmental Focus (DEF), and a new model of General Human Interaction (GHI). Detailed illustrations demonstrate how HCI can be enhanced by aligning with the functioning of human bodies and brains. The final section offers simple illustrated experiments applying ABC principles to improve our interactions with computers and devices.
