The Bush Baptist

Set against the backdrop of Auckland in the 1950s and 1960s, the protagonist grapples with a tumultuous upbringing and a shift from belief in magic to a reliance on science. After a series of misfortunes and a failed romance, he relocates to London, where he encounters squatters who challenge his conventional views. As he becomes entangled with a fundamentalist sect and its charismatic leader's sister, he faces an internal struggle between rationalism and faith, exploring themes of belief, societal norms, and personal obsessions.
