Set against the backdrop of a workshop for the mentally impaired, the story follows Eckart, a young conscientious objector, as he takes on the challenge of connecting with Ulrike, a girl with the emotional maturity of a toddler. Through patience and understanding, Eckart helps her manage her violent outbursts, fostering trust and emotional growth. This transformation not only brings hope to Ulrike's mother, who fears institutionalization for her daughter, but also highlights themes of compassion and the power of human connection.
