This book constitutes the proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Foundations of Software Science and Computation Structures, FOSSACS 2016, which took place in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in April 2016, held as Part of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software, ETAPS 2016. The study explores the origins of Papiamentu, a Caribbean creole language, challenging existing hypotheses and offering new interdisciplinary evidence. It posits that Papiamentu is genetically linked to Portuguese-based creoles from the Cape Verde Islands and Guinea-Bissau, influenced by the arrival of native speakers to Curaçao in the 17th century.
