The ‹Fließende Licht der Gottheit‹ (The Flowing Light of Divinity), written by the mystic Mechthild von Magdeburg (Mechthild of Magdeburg)(1207–1282), the oldest surviving document of women‹s mysticism in German, is examined as evidence of the theologically interpreted experience of God. In extensive analyses of the text, the author explains Mechthild‹s courageous words and acts in the contemporary church of her time as the fruit of her mystical relationship with God.
