Más información sobre el libro

Having translated The Diamond Sutra and The Heart Sutra, Red Pine now focuses on the Lankavatara Sutra, often regarded as the pinnacle of Zen texts. This sutra, given by Zen's First Patriarch, Bodhidharma, to his successor Hui-k'o, is considered to contain everything necessary for understanding Zen. It is the only Zen sutra directly spoken by the Buddha and encompasses the core teachings of Mahayana Buddhism. Central to its message are two key insights: that our perceptions of reality are merely constructs of our minds, and that this realization must be personally experienced rather than articulated. Chinese Zen masters have famously summarized these teachings as "have a cup of tea" and "taste the tea." This translation into English is based on the original Chinese version by Gunabhadra from 443, which has served as a foundation for Chinese Zen masters throughout history. Red Pine not only presents this challenging Buddhist text in accessible English but also includes summaries, explanations, and notes with relevant Sanskrit terms that informed the Chinese translation. This work is poised to be an essential resource for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of Zen.
