Más información sobre el libro

Garry Kasparov on Garry Kasparov, part 1, is the first in a three-volume series documenting the greatest chess battles of the legendary player. This series continues Kasparov’s extensive history of chess, following his acclaimed works, My Great Predecessors and Modern Chess. Known for their rigorous analysis and detailed exploration of chess developments, Kasparov's historical volumes set a high standard. In this new volume, he examines his most captivating matches from 1973 to 1985 while also reflecting on his personal growth outside the game. The narrative begins with Kasparov's rise as a chess prodigy from Baku and culminates in his first major encounter with reigning world champion Anatoly Karpov, a six-month-long battle. Although his exceptional talent was recognized in Russia, it was his participation in a 1979 tournament in Banja Luka that introduced him to the Western chess community. Initially thought to be a junior event, Banja Luka turned out to be a prestigious international tournament. Undeterred by the competition, the fifteen-year-old Kasparov claimed first place with an impressive score of 11½/15, finishing two points ahead of the field. This dominance would become a hallmark of his career in leading tournaments over the next decade.
