This study of persuasive techniques in English is designed as an introduction for students. The volume aims to clarify the complexities of persuasive language - both written and spoken - and enables students to develop their own rhetorical skills. Part one considers the sources of persuasion, part two analyzes rhetoric in action, using a variety of extracts and examples and part three demonstrates the interaction between rhetoric and current critical and linguisitic theories.
