While thirteen-year-old East End schoolgirl Jacky Hyams is happily obsessed with Elvis, the country she lives in is undergoing a seismic social change. All around her, people are shaking off the drab austerity years after the Second World War. However, it is the dramatic cultural shift that sparks rifts between generations, as bewildered parents struggle to cope with the teenage rebellion against the old-fashioned attitudes.
