Lapsley journeyed up the Zaire River and its main tributary, the Kasai, to establish the Luebo mission station and the American Presbyterian Congo Mission. Lapsley died of blackwater fever two years later, but in those two years Lapsley's devotion to his work and faith in God branded his name on the African landscape.
