Hellenistic Architecture in Asia Minor

Más información sobre el libro

This book presents the urbanistic, institutional and architectural legacy of a highly underrated period of history from an entirely fresh point of view, objectively comparing it with the Classical aesthetic that immediately preceded it. Using detailed descriptions of a majority of the Hellenistic cities in Asia Minor which have remained in a state of preservation because of their inaccessibility and isolation, the author provides a critical analysis of each. This analysis serves to place the substantial tectonic evidence that still exists there in a proper historical perspective. The text is accompanied by many rare images taken by the renowned Turkish photographer Ersin Alok, as well as survey drawings of the cities discussed, which are presented here for the first time. This in-depth presentation aims to revise current attitudes about this important subject.
