The Reader's Bible: Condensed from the Revised Standard Version by the Editors of Readers Digest

Más información sobre el libro

This unique edition of the world's greatest book condenses the popular Revised Standard Version, tailored for the general reader. Under the scholarly direction of Rev. Dr. Bruce M. Metzger, the editors at Reader's Digest have crafted a text that is shortened and clarified while retaining all sixty-six original books. It preserves every significant incident, personality, and teaching while maintaining familiar language. The edition includes introductions to both the Old and New Testaments, offering essential background information on each as a unit. Each of the Bible's sixty-six books features separate introductions that present the latest scholarly insights regarding authorship, chronology, character, and interrelationships. Additionally, a comprehensive thirty-two-page index with over two thousand entries provides quick access to the Bible's most notable people, places, incidents, parables, miracles, and teachings. In his Foreword, Donald Coggan, former Archbishop of Canterbury, emphasizes that this edition aims not to replace the full Biblical text but to offer a less daunting version that conveys the essence of the Bible. It is designed to be a direct and honest pathway to the spiritual heart of this profound work, without eliminating challenging passages.
