Die berühmte Komponistin, Filmemacherin und Fluxus-Künstlerin Yoko Ono, geboren 1933 in Tokio, machte Anfang der 60er Jahre mit zahlreichen Aktionen und Performances auf sich aufmerksam. Ono arbeitete auch konzeptionell: 1962 stellte sie in Tokio erstmals nicht ihre Leinwände, sondern ausschließlich ihre Instructions for paintings aus: Anleitungen zum Umgang mit ihren Gemälden, die z. B. den Betrachter zum Übermalen oder Drauftreten auffordern. 2007 wurde Yoko Ono in New York mit dem Artist Award for a Distinguished Body of Work ausgezeichnet für ihre Ausstellung Window for Germany in der Kunsthalle Bremen, zu der dieser Katalog erschienen ist.
