Tato kniha zkoumá „fenomén Spielberg“ nejenom ve vztahu k filmu samotnému (studuje jeho význam, limit příběhu, herecké obsazení, režijní styl, techniku atd.), ale i ve vztahu k obrovské divácké odezvě (rozebírá příčiny popularity určitých témat a její subjektivní podstatu). Jako komerčně nejúspěšnější režisér je Spielberg především tvůrcem zábavy a jeho filmy divákům nabízejí únik do jiného světa v nejlepších tradicích Hollywoodu.
