In Winterspelt, a village in the Eifel region, the lives of six individuals intersect on the eve of the Ardennes Offensive in October 1944. The central thread is Major Dincklage's planned coup, a holder of the Knight's Cross: in order to prevent senseless bloodshed, he intends to surrender his battalion to the Americans without a fight. Winterspelt, published in 1974 as Andersch's last novel, explores how events might have unfolded differently: "History tells how it was. Narrative explores a possibility."

Tento soubor podnětných esejů vynikajícího anglického prozaika Grahama Greena vyšel česky již v roce 1970 péčí nakladatelství Vyšehrad. Naše nové vydání dávno nedostupného titulu zpřístupňuje i původně vynechané texty: proslov Ctnost neloajálnosti přednesený na univerzitě v Hamburku, rozhovor z publikace Ten druhý a jeho dvojník a medailon G. K. Chestertona. Texty jsou také doplněny o cenzurované pasáže. Jádro knihy tvoří stati oddílu nazvaného Křesťan a svět, v nichž poznáváme Greenovo paradoxní chápání světa a jeho názor na podstatu křesťanství. Pozoruhodné jsou výstižné a originální portréty známých literátů (Henry James, François Mauriac, Léon Bloy, Eric Gill, Frederick Rolfe, G. K. Chesterton). Román pokrokového německého spisovatele střední generace (nar. 1930) ze života severoněmeckých rybářů. Vyvolal velkou pozornost v NDR a jistě zaujme i českého čtenáře jak svou hlavní dějovou osnovou, milostným příběhem studentky a rybáře, zasazeným do nevšední přírodní scenérie aživota ostrova Lännekenu, tak nevtíravým uplatněním soudobé problematiky, zobrazením bojů rybářů o nové formy družstevního hospodaření, jež jsou tu kulisou a jinde zase osobitým dramatickým činitelem. Podle románu natočila DEFA v roce 1964 film se stejným titulem.
