Roderic Graeme Jeffries wurde 1926 in London geboren. Sein Vater war der bekannte Kriminalschriftsteller Graham Montague Jeffries, der unter dem Pseudonym Bruce Graeme die legendäre Blackshirt-Reihe schrieb. An der School of Navigation in Southampton erhielt Jeffries eine Ausbildung zum Seemann und fuhr zwischen 1943 und 1949 zur See, zuletzt als 3. Offizier. Danach begann er, Jura zu studieren. Seine Karriere als Anwalt gab er nach nur einem Jahr auf, nachdem er alle seine ersten sieben Fälle verloren hatte. Fortan widmete er sich ausschließlich der Schriftstellerei. Seine inzwischen über 150 Bücher wurden in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzt und vielfach in Film, Fernsehen und Hörspielen umgesetzt. Der Autor benutzt dabei auch die Pseudonyme Peter Alding, Jeffrey Ashford, Hastings Draper und Graham Hastings. Unter dem Pseudonym Roderic Graeme setzt er die Blackshirt-Serie seines Vaters fort. Robert Jeffries ist verheiratet, hat zwei Kinder und lebt seit 1972 auf Mallorca.
