Dvě kriminální povídky známého francouzského spisovatele. Hlavními hrdiny jsou malí chlapci, kteří se stávají náhodnými svědky zločinů a ocitají se v nebezpečí života. V obou povídkách však spíše než na okolnosti zločinů a jejich pachatele, soustřeďuje autor pozornost na psychikudětského myšlení a jednání, vžívá se do tohoto světa a v čisté krystalické podobě vytváří živou atmosféru prostředí i postav.

Doktorka Francoise Gaillantová stojí ve svých čtyřiačtyřiceti letech na vrcholu pracovní kariéry. Má profesorský titul, vede oddělení v pařížské nemocnici, váží si jí nejen jako lékařky, ale i jako člověka. V románu sledujeme několik všedních dnů bohatého života dr. Gaillantové, poznamenaných odlivem fyzické i duševní energie. Ztrácí chuť rázně řešit každodenní spory v nemocnici, pozbývá síly zápasit po boku pacientů o jejich uzdravení. Definitivně si uvědomuje, že jako manželka a matka je neúspěšná. Práce u ní od začátku měla přednost před dětmi a teď když syn i dcera dospívají, nedokáže jim překonat nesnadný vstup do světa dospělých. Nad hromadícími se problémy vítězí únava, která při kontrolním snímkování plic dostane konkrétní jméno. Doktorka Gaillantová je těžce nemocná: rakovina. Svým pacientům nikdy neříkala krutou pravdu, je přesvědčena, že s takovou pravdou není nikdo schopen se vyrovnat. Inteligentní, emancipované a přímé ženě-lékařce však nikdo z kolegů neposkytne milosrdnou lež, naději, které by se mohla zachytit. Až do konce románu, kdy se dr. Gaillantová chystá na operační sál, sledujeme její bolestný a heroický zápas, kdy sama v sobě a proti všem hledá a nachází vůli k životu.

Autorka se soustředila na osudy Grace Kellyové (známé u nás především z filmu V pravé poledne) od jejích prvních krůčků v rodině milionáře, přes úspěšné pětileté období v Hollywoodu, až po její poslední chvíle jako monacké kněžny po dvacetišestiletém manželství s Rainierem III.

Il y a 100 ans, Louis Pergaud écrivait La Guerre des boutons, roman de ma douzième année, un roman tendre et drôle, jamais démodé, sans cesse réédité, illustré et adapté de nombreuses fois au cinéma (déjà en 1936 et toujours en 2012). " Si j'aurais su... " doit penser Pergaud de là où il est : après tout, cette guerre qu'il a décrite n'est que celle que se livrent des enfants pour quelques bouts de lacets et des boutons... Rien qui ne prédestinait Lebrac, Camus ou les Gibus à entrer dans l'Histoire, en somme ! Surtout que cette Histoire ne les passionnait guère, à vrai dire... Mais le succès de ce roman vient aussi du fait que sa légèreté innocente n'est qu'une apparence : la frontière entre jeu et réalité bientôt se brouille et l'on ressent une rébellion contre l'ordre établi.
