Irena jest wzorem odwagi: nie waha się przeciwstawić strażnikom, aby zrobić więcej niż pozwalają okupanci. Punktem zwrotnym jest dzień, gdy na łożu śmierci, młoda matka powierza jej życie swego syna. Ten zwrot akcji i następujące po nim wydarzenia sprawiają, że Irena angażuje się w ratowanie dzieci z getta. Aby to zrobić, musi być gotowa zaryzykować życie.

W tym tomie sięgamy do momentów życia Ireny Sendlerowej podczas Powstania Warszawskiego. Autorzy rysują również obraz powstańczej Warszawy i przedstawiają go w przystępny dla dzieci sposób. Irena Sendlerowa, działaczka ruchu odporu, była jedną z bohaterek II wojny światowej. Uratowała prawie 2500 żydowskich dzieci z warszawskiego getta. W 1965 roku uznana za Sprawiedliwą wśród Narodów Świata. Zmarła w 2008 roku w Warszawie. Warto podsunąć go do przeczytania dzieciom, ale lektura będzie zajmująca także dla dorosłych. Trzeba jednak potraktować tę opowieść, zgodnie z intencjami autorów, jako jedynie zaproszenie do samodzielnego studiowania niezwykłego życia tytułowej bohaterki. Nie jest to bowiem komiks historyczny w sensie ścisłym, nie jest to także tym bardziej dokument ukazujący wiernie poszczególne zdarzenia z jej życia (choć w komiksie znalazły się przypisy wyjaśniające pewne zdarzenia oraz lista książek poświęconych Irenie Sendlerowej). Irena pozostaje dostosowaną do dziecięcej wrażliwości, mądrą i przejmującą wizją życia zgodnego z pewnymi wartościami. Jest to budująca opowieść o tym, że nawet w czasach, gdy tak trudno było żyć godnie, byli ludzie przedkładający życie innych ponad własne bezpieczeństwo.
