A nine-year-old boy embarks on a life-changing journey to reunite with his estranged father just before Christmas. After being sent away from a violent home, he arrives in Reno only to find his father, a troubled Vietnam vet, who rejects him and threatens him. Feeling abandoned, the boy contemplates spending the holiday at a police station. However, two compassionate strangers—a Greyhound driver and a cafe waitress—step in to help, discovering that their efforts to support him bring unexpected joy and transformation to their own lives.
