Over a decade in the making, this record of conversations captures the worldview of 28 leading film directors from India's diverse film industry, including Bollywood, independent cinema, and regional films in various languages. Tula Goenka presents the authentic voices and visions of these filmmakers, free from external critiques or analyses. Her extensive experience in filmmaking and the Indian film business fosters a lively rapport with these creators, leading to discussions that explore their personal stories, artistic influences, and the complexities of working in the industry. This work offers a glimpse behind the scenes of Indian filmmaking, extending beyond popular Hindi cinema. Goenka is a filmmaker, educator, and human rights activist with three decades in the film and television sector, having collaborated with renowned directors like Mira Nair, Spike Lee, and James Ivory. Currently, she produces and edits her own documentaries and serves as a tenured professor at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, where she teaches film production and Indian cinema. She also leads her students on internships in Bombay and founded the Syracuse University Human Rights Film Festival, now in its 12th year.
