Život a umučení svatého Václava a jeho báby svaté Ludmily - Vita et passio sancti Wenceslai et sanctae Ludmilae avae eius. Autor této zakladatelské památky, mnich Kristián z rodu Slavníkovců, ji připisuje ve svém prologu svému synovci, druhému biskupu pražskému Vojtěchovi. To znamená, že psal své dílo v posledním desetiletí 10. století a že je to tedy nejstarší historický spis českého autora, psaný ovšem latinsky. Toto rané datování vedlo k dlouhodobým diskusím, jichž se zúčastnilo mnoho historiků a slavistů. Složitou problematikou vzniku, obsahu a autorství této legendy – vyprávějící o pokřtění Moravy Řekem Cyrilem, o jeho obraně slovanské bohoslužby před papežem v Římě, o působení biskupa Metoděje na dvoře Svatoplukově a posléze o sv. Ludmile a sv. Václavu – se významnou měrou zabýval i profesor Jaroslav Ludvíkovský (1895–1984) v četných článcích, studiích a recenzích. V této publikaci přehledně shrnuje výsledky své mnohaleté práce a po letech vydává i latinský text Kristiánovy legendy, o němž se sice mnoho psalo a mluvilo, ale který zůstával pro většinu zájemců prakticky nedostupný. Vydání obsahuje i paralelní český překlad a textovou kritiku. V poznámkách se profesor Ludvíkovský zabývá zejména Kristiánovým stylem a komentuje zvláště ty pasáže, které jednoznačně potvrzují pravost legendy a její datování do 10. století.
