Dem Hörer bei der Überwindung dieser Schwierigkeiten an die Hand zu gehen, ist ein Zweck dies~ Buches;. Es behandelt in elementarer Darstellung im wesentlichen die technische Mechanik des starren Körpers und starrer Systeme mit besonderer Berück­ sichtigung der Bedürfnisse der Praxis, wobei auch auf eine möglichst systematische Darstellung Gewicht gelegt wurde. über den gewöhn­ lichen Stoff einer Pflichtvorlesung aus diesem Gebiet hinaus sind noch einige Abschnitte eingefügt, die dem Studierenden die Möglich­ keit geben, auch jene Begriffe und Methoden zum Teil wenigstens kennenzulernen, die er benötigt, um die einschlägige Literatur wenigstens einigermaßen lesen zu können, so z. B. die Behandlung einer einfachen Randwertaufgabe in der Dynamik der Ketten tmd Seile, die Abbildungsmethoden räumlicher Vektoren auf die Ebene nach :l\Iajor und ~Iises, die Ableitung der Lagrangeschen Bewegungs­ gleichungen und anderes mehr. Die wissenschaftliche Durchbildung, welche die Ingenieurfächer im Laufe der Entwicklung erfahren, stdlt ja in dieser Beziehung an den Techniker immer größere An­ sprüche, die in einem normalen Lehrgang einer technischen Hooh­ schule nicht berücksichtigt werden können, da die Hörer schon an und für sich genügend belastet sind. Bei der Aufnahme derartiger Abschnitte war auch die Rücksicht auf die technischen Physiker und Lehramtskandidaten maßgebend, denen das Buch daher gute Dienste leisten dürfte. In der Anordnung des Stoffes ist der an den Hochschulen aus pädagogischen Gründen üblichen Einteilung gefolgt worden.
