Diese Publikation stellt einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Erforschung von Leben und Werk Erich Maria Remarques dar. Neben einem grundlegenden Beitrag zur Gesamtwürdigung des Autors sind Aufsätze zu Einzelfragen der Beschäftigung mit Remarque enthalten, insbesondere zu seinem Antikriegsroman „Im Westen nichts Neues“ (1928/29) und den Schriften der fünfziger Jahre wie „Der Funke Leben“, „Zeit zu leben und Zeit zu steben“ oder „Der schwarze Obelisk“. Der umfangreiche Remarque-Nachlass in der Fales-Library der New York University, aus dem erste Untersuchungsergebnisse in die Aufsätze einfließen, und die Verfilmungen nach Romanen Remarques stehen im Vordergrund weiterer Beiträge.
