Für die Erkundung Australiens nimmt er sich 3 Monate Zeit und reist als Rucksacktourist erst mit dem "Alternativen Busreisenetzwerk" nach Cairns, dann per Greyhoundbus ins Outback, nach Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Perth, die Westküste hoch bis nach Darwin mit Stopps in diversen berühmten Nationalparks. Amüsant, ironisch, auch selbstironisch schildert Stevenson seine Erlebnisse mit Mitreisenden aus der internationalen BackpackerSzene und seine Begegnungen mit den "Aussies". Im Lauf der Reise kristalliert sich ein besonderes Interesse an Geschichte und Gegenwart der australischen Ureinwohner heraus, speziell am aktuell schwierigen Verhältnis zu den weißen Australiern. Am Ende der Reise genießt der Autor einige Tage Gastfreundschaft in einer AboriginalGemeinschaft. Flott zu lesen, dialogreich geschrieben, kritisch gegenüber Rassismus, offen für skurrile Typen und Lebensläufe nach der Lektüre ist der künftige Australienreisende gewappnet für Begegnungen im Outback.
