Patnáct nejzábavnějších Lúkianových satir, parodií a dialogů je zhruba pětinou toho, co se nám z díla rozverného antického vypravěče zachovalo. Všecky vynikají břitkým vtipem a osvobozujícím smíchem. V Hostině ukazuje spisovatel, jací jsou filozofové v jeho době pokrytci a šarlatáni: ti, kdo z řečnických kateder hlásají lidstvu ideály snášenlivost, zdrženlivosti a skromnosti se na hostině u bohatého mecenáše přejedí, opijí a vyčtou si tak hrozné věci, že se ze slovní půtky vyvine nakonec pěstní potyčka a hodovníci odcházejí se šrámy, boulemi a pohmožděninami. V Cestě nad oblaky se autor posmívá plané honbě za bohatstvím, ve Snu víře v převtělování, v Příživníkovi paroduje lidskou dotěrnost, ve Vyděděném se dozvídáme o léčebných postupech starověké medicíny, v Oslovi o kouzelnických praktikách thesalských čarodějnic i o milostných dobrodružstvích jejich služek. Korunou Lúkianových vyprávění je fantazie o cestě na Měsíc, do podsvětí a na Ostrovy blažených a Ostrovy hříšníků, nazvaná ironicky Pravdivé příběhy. pod slupkou nezávazných rozpustilostí se tají v pracích antického satirika nejedna hlubší myšlenka a záleží na důvtipu čtenáře, kolik si z těchto úsměvných historek odnese jadrnějšího fládru.

In der Schrift «Erotes» (Zweierlei Liebe) des spätantiken Autors Lukian (ca. 120–180 u. Der Gymnasialprofessor Paul Brandt (1875–1929) übersetzte als «Hans Licht» erstmals Lukians Schrift ins Deutsche, da sich Christoph Martin Wieland, der bedeutende Lukian-Übersetzer, damit nicht hatte «beschmutzen» wollen.
