الجزيرة المغلقة" رائعة سيد الرواية الأميركية المعاصرة "دينيس ليهان" وأحد أبرز الروائيين العالميين في القرن العشرين، والذي تصدرت روايته هذه لائحة نيويورك تايمز لأكثر الكتب مبيعاً وتحولت فيما بعد إلى فيلم سينمائي مثير من إخراج مارتن سكور سيزي وبطولة ليوناردو دي كابريو. تدور أحداث الرواية عام 1954 أثناء إجراء المارشال الأميركي "تيدي كابريو" وشريكه "تشاك" تحقيقاً حول اختفاء مريضة حسناء من مستشفى للمصابين باضطرابات عقلية إجرامية يقع على جزيرة نائية، حيث تمثل Shutter Island مرتبة بارزة ضمن لائحة أسوأ الأماكن التي يمكن زيارتها في العالم. وعندما يبدأ المحققان عملهما والتحقيق في ملابسات عملية الهرب، سرعان ما يكتشفان بأن الموضوع هو أكثر تعقيداً من مجرد العثور على امرأة مفقودة. وبعد مراجعتهما لسجلات المرضى الطبية يصلا إلى حائط مسدود بفضل مدير المصح غير المتعاون، الذي يبدو أنه يخفي شيئاً؟ وخلال هبوب عاصفة بحرية هوجاء، يختفي فجأة أحد رجلي الشرطة في ظروف غامضة فتتملك شريكه هواجس عدة ليس أقلها الخطر على حياته. هذه الخلطة العجيبة من البشر والتي تمثلت بمجموعة من القتلة والمغتصبين الذين يحتلون الجزيرة ويسيرونها حسب أهوائهم، هذه المجاميع أدارها الروائي بحنكة عالية ذات طابع عاطفي عميق، وحوارات تبين قدرة "ليهان" على الغوص أكثر في الجهة المظلمة من النفس البشرية، في إطار من التشويق الأخاذ الذي يلفه الغموض بحيث يجد القارئ نفسه عاجزاً عن اكتشاف هذه المعلومات والأسرار حتى نهاية الرواية، ما يجعلنا نهيم في عالمها أكثر فأكثر. وهنا يتساءل المرء هل تقدم العلوم وشعار خدمة العلم، يدفع الإنسان ثمنها بإجراء التجارب عليه "يقول الطبيب نحن نحاول فقط مساعدة هذا المسكين اللعين". مفاجآت كثيرة تحملها هذه الرواية الممتعة والمؤثرة في آن معاً، بما تكشفه من متناقضات المجتمع المتحضر، حيث المظهر الخادع للحضارة رقيق جداً يكشف عن أنيابه في لحظة يبدو العنف الإجرامي باهتاً أمام رعب مؤامرات العقل البشري.
