Sickened by the prevailing obsession with power and money, he seeks fulfillment outside the large firms, discovering that the legal profession is riddled with egos, political games, and manipulation. His journey takes him from the streets of The Hague to the upper echelons of society, where he meets remarkable individuals and companies. The narrative includes encounters with mayors, members of parliament, ministers, the prime minister, and King Willem Alexander, alongside other notable figures like Louis van Gaal, Roger Lips, the daughter of Hulk Hogan, and Guus Meeuwis. Through a series of sometimes hilarious, sometimes shocking anecdotes, he reflects on his life path, which begins with ordinary happiness and, after experiencing wealth, illness, and exhaustion, ultimately returns to the basics. Hubert-Jan van Boxel werkte na zijn studie notarieel recht in Leiden bij diverse grote advocaten- en notariskantoren. In 1999 werd hij benoemd tot jongste notaris van Nederland en in 2011 promoveerde hij aan de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen. Momenteel is hij zelfstandig juridisch adviseur.
