This book is written with deep respect for my Amish heritage, focusing on the genuine virtues and values that characterize their slow-paced, horse and buggy lifestyle. It highlights the stress-free existence of the "gentle" Amish, exploring their soothing personal qualities, religious beliefs, ceremonies, child-rearing practices, and other cultural aspects. The narrative emphasizes the customs and moral codes of the Amish, as articulated by myself, a former member of the Old Order Amish sect, along with current Amish participants. The Amish community embodies a unique, peaceful lifestyle, prioritizing patience and non-violence, where forgiveness and confession replace force and retaliation. Their daily lives are free from the stresses prevalent in mainstream society, contributing to a notably low rate of depression among members. While the broader culture has faced significant personal costs by abandoning traditional values, the Amish steadfastly uphold these principles daily. Amish leaders question the rationale behind advancing technology that undermines essential life qualities. They adopt a primitive approach to technology while navigating a world driven by relentless progress, yet they continue to thrive and grow. Joe Wittmer, Ph.D.
