In this book, Stefan Hedlund and Kristian Gerner provide a riveting account of the self-destruction of the Soviet empire, examining the role of the Baltic states in this process of destruction. They discuss how the three Baltic republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania struggled successfully to gain their freedom, and how the policies pursued by Mikhail Gorbachev served to mobilize and politicize Baltic demands.
