Après deux premières versions sous le titre La Jeune Fille Violaine, L'Annonce faite à Marie (1912) a encore été reprise par son auteur tard dans sa vie. Ce «Mystère en quatre actes et un prologue», à l'action touffue, mystérieuse, raconte l'ascension vers la sainteté de Violaine, lépreuse par charité (c'est le baiser à l'architecte Pierre de Craon), persécutée par les siens, et notamment par sa sœur Mara, abandonnée par son fiancé, et qui accomplit un miracle, sauver l'enfant de sa sœur, sans échapper pour autant à sa haine. La jeune fille, imitation de la Vierge Marie, exprime le mystère de la souffrance et de la destinée. Claudel y a mis son expérience de l'amour impossible, de la foi, et du rythme à la fois poétique et théâtral.

Vzpomínky francouzského básníka a dramatika Paula Claudela Obejmout minulost jsou přepisem 42 rozhovorů s Jeanem Amrouchem z let 1951–1952. Claudel nikdy nenapsal své memoáry, místo toho se účastnil rozhlasového pořadu, kde improvizovaně reflektoval svůj život a dílo. Text zachycuje mluvní charakter rozhovoru, včetně odboček a nedokončených myšlenek. Amrouche, spisovatel a novinář, se na rozhovor důkladně připravil a stal se Claudelovým rovnocenným partnerem. Jeho cílem bylo přimět Claudela vzpomínat na okolnosti vzniku jeho her a prozkoumat vnitřní vztahy mezi dramatickými postavami a autorem. Claudel se vrací do svého dětství, vzpomíná na pařížské dospívání, studia a náboženské probuzení, a zmiňuje své přátele a umělecké kolegy. Kniha není dokumentárním popisem, ale snaží se proniknout do podstaty Claudelova duchovního a myšlenkového zrání. Claudelovo poznání, že jde o snahu dělat, co můžeme, i bez jistoty úspěchu, je paradoxní. Jeho umělecký úspěch se ověřuje v trvalém zájmu o jeho dílo i po více než šedesáti letech od jeho smrti. Rozhovory byly vysílány v letech 1951 a 1952 a poprvé vyšly knižně v roce 1954. Český překlad vychází z třetího vydání z roku 2001 a obsahuje bibliografii přeložených textů Claudela a soupis inscenací jeho děl.
