Der mallorquinische Philosoph Raimundus Lullus (um 1235–1315) versuchte durch eine Kombinatorik der obersten allgemeinen Begriffe alle übrigen Wahrheiten abzuleiten und in ihrem Zusammenhang anschaulich darzustellen. Die Logik hat die Aufgabe der Entdeckung des Wahren und Falschen« und kann diese nur nach Maßgabe einer ihr vorgeordneten Reflexion auf die allen Wissenschaften zugrundeliegenden Grundbegriffe erfüllen. Usilujeme o to, aby osoby poučené a tohoto umění znalé pak s myslí k Bohu upřenou je ještě lépe chápaly a dobrými skutky oslavovaly, v lásce měly a milosrdenství skrze ně prokazovaly, svým nadáním se před nikým netajily a k pochybným cílům je nepoužívaly, jak v hlavě 26 svatý Matouš přikazuje. V důvěře ve slova, s nimiž se Pán na Mojžíše obrátil řka: "Já v ústech tvých sídliti budu a poučím tě, co říkat máš," jsem se Pánem samotným vybídnut odhodlal toto přetajné, nad všechna ostatní cennější tajemství zveřejnit a s pomocí boží vyjevit něco málo z jeho povahy, zásad a regulí.
