Každý z nás zná nějakou Kim Čijong… Postava Kim Čijong, obyčejné třicátnice, je korejským čtenářům — a zejména čtenářkám — důvěrně známá. O věrohodnost jejího příběhu se autorka nemusí nijak zvlášť snažit, protože jednotlivé životní epizody tvoří součást obecné každodennosti a společně sdílené zkušenosti. Symbolický je už sám výběr jména; údajně se jedná o nejčastější jméno dávané korejským dívkám v roce 1982.
