V roce 1969 vydal Bernard Noël pod pseudonymem Urbain z Orlhaku novelu, která se stala jedním z nejvýznamnějších děl francouzské erotické literatury. Příběh se odehrává na tajemném ostrově, kde hrdina prochází dlouhou sexuální iniciační cestou jako milenec Luny, a zažívá dantovskou výpravu utrpení a extáze. Kniha obsahuje také fragmenty plánovaného pokračování a esej Zneuctění slov, v níž autor reflektuje neúspěšné pokusy francouzské vlády o její zákaz a zkoumá vztah mezi literaturou a cenzurou. Autor se zamýšlí nad tím, co znamená být neakceptovatelný, a zdůrazňuje, že psaní bylo pro něj okamžikem radosti a svobody. V současnosti se ptá, zda je kniha, kdysi souzená pro urážku mravů, dnes neškodná, nebo zda cenzura pouze změnila svou strategii, když upírá význam výstřelkům fantazie a racionálním hodnotám, čímž nás připravuje o jejich požitek.
Franta (František Mertl, b. 1930) is an artist celebrated for his compelling canvas works that delve into human relationships. Known for both his early figurative and later disfiguration paintings, Franta also excels in sculpture, infusing his expressive aesthetic into three-dimensional forms. However, the full significance of Franta's contributions is only beginning to be recognized. This study serves as the first monograph on his art, tracing his journey from the 1960s, when he fled Czechoslovakia to France, to his recent exhibitions in New York and Paris. Nicholas Watkins traces Matisse's career from the Fauve paintings of the 1907 Salon d'Automne to the final flowering of his paper cut-outs, culminating in his masterpiece, the Vence Chapel. Along the way Watkins describes the full range of Matisse's paintings, sculpture, book illustrations, and paper cut-outs with visual sensitivity, a keen knowledge of technique, and, above all, a warmth of style.
