James Matthew Barrie brytyjski pisarz pochodzenia szkockiego. Urodził się 9 maja 1860 r. w Kirriemuir (Szkocja), pochodził z wielodzietnej rodziny, ogromny wpływ na jego życie miała tragiczna śmierć jego starszego brata Davida. Barrie od dzieciństwa marzył o zostaniu pisarzem, wiele czytał i interesował się literaturą. Jednak jego rodzice nie pochwalali tego wyboru. W 1885 r., dzięki wsparciu brata Jana, wyjechał do Londynu, gdzie podjął pracę jako dziennikarz. Do jego najważniejszych dzieł należą m.in. Nieporównany Crichton, a także powieść dla dzieci Przygody Piotrusia Pana. Pisarz zmarł 19 czerwca 1937 r. w Londynie. Przygody Piotrusia Pana to historia maleńkiego chłopca, który uciekając z domu do magicznego parku, został w nim na noc i już nigdy nie mógł powrócić do właściwej ludzkiej natury.
