Soubor Slova jako hvězdy přináší výběr těch nejkrásnějších myšlenek z pera tohoto letce, básníka a velikého humanisty. S motivem hvězd se setkáváme snad v každém díle Saint-Exupéryho -- ať je to rodná hvězda Malého prince, hvězda, podle níž poutník na poušti určuje směr svého cesty, nebo hvězdy zářící letci nad hlavou z noční temnoty. Nejen proto jsme však tak pojmenovali tento výbor, nýbrž i proto, že nám jeho slova dokážou prozářit temné chvíle, jaké se vyskytnou v životě každého člověka.

V Zemi lidí pak autor představuje sérii esejů o lidském údělu na pozadí krátkých epizod z létání, včetně téměř tragické nehody na Sahaře. Exupéry zde mísí autobiografické prvky s lyrickými popisy a úvahami nad hrdinstvím prvních pilotů v počátcích moderního letectví - se značně méně vyspělou technikou i konstrukcí strojů byli často vydáni na pospas živlům a jako jediné pomocníky k ruce měli mapy plné stále ještě bílých míst. Jakákoli porucha či nouzové přistání tak mohly mít fatální důsledky, Exupérymu se přesto i dramatické události daří zachytit citlivě poetickým a metaforickým jazykem.

Před čtenářovými zraky se odvíjí křehký příběh nešťastné lásky poštovního kurýra Bernise k Genevievě, na níž hlavní hrdina vzpomíná při letu z Evropy do Afriky. V knize najdeme i jiné známé autorovy povídky: Noční letec, Válečný pilot a Dopis rukojmímu.

Místo válčení ale před lety vymysleli hru – jmenuje se Ludokaa a ten, kdo vyhraje partii, se může pokochat zapadajícím sluncem. Křehké příměří však náhle naruší neblahá událost – z jednoho tábora je odcizen jízdní tygr. Válka mezi oběma národy je téměř na spadnutí. V této svízelné situaci se na planetu dostane Malý princ s Liškou. Oba hrdinové musí včas zasáhnout, než dojde ke katastrofě!

Une dernière partie enfin est composée d'écrits personnels.Le deuxième tome propose l'intégralité des écrits de guerre de Saint-Exupéry, composés en France (1939-1940), aux États-Unis (1941-1943), en Afrique du Nord (1943-1944). Cette «littérature engagée» se double d'un engagement physique qui en est comme la cauion. Tout en prenant sa part des périls de l'époque, Saint-Exupéry parle des hommes de tous les temps. Le héros du Petit Prince est un enfant dont la sagesse ne vieillit pas la voix. Quant au testament posthume, Citadelle, il va rester inachevé : «Je suis lourd d'une musique qui ne sera pas entendue», disait Saint-Exupéry. Pas de son vivant, en effet.
