Im Jahr 1785 geriet Jacobi aufgrund seiner Arbeit zur 'Lehre des Spinoza' in den Mittelpunkt philosophischer Auseinandersetzungen, insbesondere im Streit mit Mendelssohn über Lessings vermeintlichen Spinozismus.
