Wir möchten uns im Folgenden mit dem Selbstmord auseinandersetzen, insbesondere der Suizid von Soldaten in der Schlacht. Dieser ist seit Jahrhunderten in der japanischen Tradition des Bushido (Weg der Samurai) gefestigt und findet durch wirtschaftliche Unterlegenheit gegen Ende des Krieges gegen die westlichen Alliierten ihren Höhepunkt (Croitoru 2006: 15).
