People are often nonplussed when you tell them that you are a photographer of the nude. They usually imagine that you take slightly pornographic pictures of girls as titillating objects for mens' magazines or pin-ups for newspapers. My nude photography is nothing like that. I come from a background of theatrical and decorating photography, and for many years after I had illustrated Mary Gilliatt's interiors book, English Style, I travelled extensively, photographing the homes of the rich or famous. I first started to photograph nudes as a simple outdoor antidote to this surfeit of interior oppulence. [Taken from the Introduction of The Book of Nude Photography by Michael Boys]
