Der Amerikaner Richard Serra zählt zu den bedeutendsten Bildhauern des 20. Jahrhunderts, seine Arbeit 'Terminal' zu den Meilensteinen in der Geschichte der Skulptur. Mit diesem Werk wurde 1977 erstmals eine von Richard Serras Außenraumskulpturen dauerhaft im Stadtraum aufgestellt. Immer noch fremd stellt sich die Skulptur auch heute noch der städtischen Architektur entgegen und markiert hierin eine neue Qualität für eine Kunst im öffentlichen Raum.
