Das hydrologische System ist voller Heterogenität. Um quantitative und qualitative Informationen über das hydrologische System zu gewinnen, werden in größerem Umfang verschiedene Arten von hydrologischen Modellen eingesetzt. Trotz der Verbesserung des Verständnisses des hydrologischen Systems durch fortschrittliche Technologien wie Fernerkundung, geografische Informationssysteme (GIS), maschinelles Lernen usw. sind die hydrologischen Modelle heute in der Lage, eine Annäherung an das natürliche hydrologische System zu erfassen. Die Verwendung von hydrologischen Simulationsmodellen ist jedoch mit verschiedenen Arten von Unsicherheiten verbunden, die mit der Modellstruktur, den Modellparametern und den Eingabedaten zusammenhängen. In einer solchen Situation kann die Ensemble-Modellierung eine wichtige Rolle bei der Verringerung der Unsicherheiten spielen, die sich aus der natürlichen Zufälligkeit, der fehlerhaften Modellstruktur, den Modellparametern und den Eingabedaten ergeben. Dieses Buch wird einen wissenschaftlichen Einblick in die grundlegenden Methoden der Ensemble-Modellierung in der Hydrologie zur Verbesserung der Flussabflusssimulation geben, die ich während meiner M.Tech-Forschung am IIT Kharagpur angewandt habe.
