This book, published by Twisted Spoon Press in Prague, explores the cultural significance of walking in Europe, intertwining physical activity with meditation and reflection. Drawing inspiration from Joyce's Ulysses and Hrabal's anecdotal style, it follows a father and son as they stroll through Prague, revealing their personal lives against the backdrop of sixty years of regional upheaval. The narrative illustrates how individual "small histories" are inextricably linked to larger historical events, showcasing themes of family disruption, failed relationships, and the cyclical nature of life amidst change. The father muses, "Nothing's been new in this world for more than two billion years; it's all just variations on the same theme of carbon, hydrogen, helium, and nitrogen." This prompts a reflection on Prague's tumultuous past—its shifting governments, wars, and revolutions—and questions what has truly changed over time. The story suggests that, on a personal level, the same mistakes continue to recur, creating a perpetual cycle of challenges. Currently being translated into various European languages, this novel won the Magnesia Litera Book of the Year award in 2003 and has been adapted into a feature film.
