Set in 1970s Chicago, the story follows eleven-year-old Matasha Wax as she navigates the challenges of growing up amidst personal and familial turmoil. Struggling with her best friend's distance, her parents' marital issues, and her own insecurities about her height, Matasha's world is further shaken by her mother's sudden disappearance. As she grapples with her fears and the mystery surrounding the disappearance of a local boy, Matasha must uncover the truth about her family's secrets through cryptic letters from Switzerland.
