Set against the backdrop of 1936 Egypt and 1978 New York City, the narrative intertwines the lives of Charlotte Cross, an anthropology student haunted by tragedy, and Annie Jenkins, a young assistant to fashion icon Diana Vreeland. As Charlotte, now an associate curator at the Met, becomes embroiled in the mystery of a missing artifact linked to a cursed female pharaoh, she reluctantly teams up with Annie.
