Más información sobre el libro

An amateur detective becomes involved in solving a case of kidnapping and double murder. As elections approach, a young woman, the stepsister of one of the two most influential politicians in the city, is abducted. The re-election of District Attorney Phil Duncan depends on the support of this politician, who is also invested in her fate. Duncan's friend, Sam Moraine, the head of an advertising agency, acts as an intermediary in the ransom exchange. The kidnapped woman is later found beaten near the home of a prominent opposition politician who was murdered. What begins as a straightforward case becomes increasingly complex, revealing connections to corruption and unethical campaign practices. Initially motivated by curiosity and a desire for adventure, Sam, with the help of his secretary, Natalie Rice, also seeks to assist her father, a former city treasurer recently released from prison for alleged embezzlement. He discovers that everything is interconnected and that the alibi appears to be closely tied to the length of a candle at the crime scene. This book is a classic detective novel featuring a gradually unveiled mystery, a limited number of suspects, and a likable hero who outshines official investigators with his skills.
