Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?

Jessica Lewisohn wants the best for her lovely daughter, Laurel. When Laurel comes home from college and introduces her new boyfriend, Kevin Glade, Jessica is immediately put off by something intangible. At first she chalks it up to an overly critical reaction to any young man who thinks he is good enough for her Laurel. But Kevin's too-perfect manner nags at her and, despite the danger of alienating her daughter, Jessica begins investigating his past. She finds that Kevin is not who he says he is; in fact, his entire past is a creation out of whole cloth. Profoundly disturbed, Jessica warns Laurel, and discovers that even her daughter is having misgivings about Kevin, though she is fighting them. Kevin has become obsessively jealous, possessive, frightening away her friends, allowing her no privacy. Finally, Laurel decides to break things off with him. When Jessica finds the single thread that leads her to Kevin's real identity, dismay turns to terror. Laurel is hundreds of miles away, spending one last weekend with Kevin, hoping to end on a decent note. But Kevin, Jessica now knows, will never let Laurel go. And she must reach her daughter in time—before Kevin can kill again.
