Más información sobre el libro
Splendidly illustrated with many of the most beautiful Impressionist images, this volume presents the history of Impressionism between 1874 and 1886. The book examines how Impressionism came about, places the movement within its historical and social context, and analyzes the works of art the Impressionists produced. In addition, the book reflects on the critical misconceptions attached to Impressionism, pointing out that far from being rebels, most of the painters were deeply conservative in their political beliefs, and almost all of them, with the exception of Renoir and Monet, came from middle-class backgrounds. Included are not only the familiar masterpieces of the movement, but also many lesser-known works.
