Más información sobre el libro
Jaroslav Poncar is one of the most significant photographers of Tibet and an expert on the entire Himalayan region. In 1985, he was the first European to completely traverse Tibet from east to west. His photographs, taken during four extensive journeys between 1985 and 1993 on the roof of the world, show us a country that no longer exists in the same way today, as modernization has significantly changed the streetscape and some cities in recent years. For this photo book, Poncar compiled many previously unpublished images from his extensive archive, which have now gained historical significance. His photographs are documents of a country he first visited shortly after the hesitant opening by the Chinese government. His book tells of elaborate journeys under sometimes adventurous conditions, the struggle against the Chinese authorities, his life with Tibetan nomads, and the overwhelming, grand nature. The images are accompanied by text from Asia expert John Keay.
