    • Michael Saunders is a retired consultant neurologist and an Anglican priest, who is convinced that all religions require secular study in a globalized world. Having been warned that this might undermine his faith, he went ahead and studied anyway. Having suffered from muscular dystrophy for much of his life, the combination of being a priest, a doctor and a disabled person gives him an insight into religion, medicine and illness that most of us lack, but he endeavours in this series of essays to share with us his own views on these matters, and others, whilst acknowledging the diversity of opinion. Does God work without science? Will disease cure itself if we pray hard enough? Or must we help ourselves? Saunders' essays and arguments, interspersed with his personal journey into degenerative disease, give much food for thought.

    • This book by Michael Saunders is a collection of sermons that he gave to the parishioners of Masham and Healey in the Yorkshire Dales. As a retired Minister in Secular Employment he has been at the edge of the Church, exposed to the joys and tribulations of a life working in the British National Health Service. In his preaching he has attempted to explore the importance of a liberal Christian faith, open to the insights of other world religions, and connected with the realities of modern life.
