Un niño de once años ha sido brutalmente violado y asesinado, y todas las pruebas apuntan a Terry Maitland, un querido entrenador de liga infantil y profesor. El detective Ralph Anderson ordena su detención, pero Maitland tiene una coartada sólida que demuestra que estaba en otra ciudad durante el crimen.
