Převážná část knihy je věnována rozvoji spojenecké techniky. Kniha byla poprvé publikována v roce 1967. Tato verze končí japonskou kapitulací. Závěr je doplněn o přehledy německých a japonských pozemních a námořních radarů a srovnávací tabulkou hodností britské, americké a německé armády s orientačními českými ekvivalenty.

Autor – zkušený válečný dokumentarista – podrobně popisuje vývoj sil a bojů německého letectva od poměrně nadějného stavu v květnu 1944 až do zhroucení bojové fronty během dubna 1945. Kniha je o to cennější, že je pravděpodobně prvním takto faktograficky podloženým dílem, neboť vdubnu 1945 byly zničeny všechny dokumenty v historickém oddělení Luftwaffe. Autorovi se však podařilo vyhledat v archivech zbylé materiály, doplnit je od bývalých příslušníků Luftwaffe a od svých známých.

Publikace se zaměřuje na otázky spojené s využitím proudových vojenských letounů v operacích 2. světové války. Dvojice autorů (Američan a Angličan) ve své knize detailně charakterizuje technický vývoj vojenských tryskových letounů a jejich praktické využití v různých leteckých bitvách 2. světové války. Jsou zde popsány všechny nejvýznamnější typy letadel, nasazované v bojích armádami Velké Británie, Německa, USA a Japonska. Text doplňují černobílé fotografie, mnohdy vysoké dokumentární hodnoty.

Publikace V. E. Tarranta je dokumentem o průběhu a vývoji válečné situace na moři v posledním roce druhé světové války, od května roku 1944. Kniha obsahuje i technické popisy německých bojových lodí od křižníků přes ponorky až k bizarním pokusům o lidská torpéda a lodě na elektrický nebo raketový pohon. Autor tuto knihu napsal zejména proto, aby zaplnil prozatímní nedostatek informací o událostech posledního roku války na německé straně. Svým velkým rozsahem patří tato kniha k nejvýznamnějším dokumentům na dané téma.
